J. Early Learning Goals and the Foundation Stage

Development of the Foundation Stage of Development for children from 3 years to the end of reception (approximately 6 years of age). The inclusion of this stage indicates that children should pass through definite stepping stones as indicated in the Early Learning Goals before beginning the National Curriculum Key Stages of Primary School. The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority or QCA developed a guidance document on the Early Learning Goals for use by Partnerships, early childhood educators and providers and the OFSTED inspectorate. This document emphasizes the role of play in the development of young children
